The Band

Left Hand Red began when lifelong friends Daniel Scully and Darren Cook were having a casual conversation over drinks in a pub. Daniel had been writing lyrics for a couple of years but couldn’t play guitar, whilst Darren could play guitar but was struggling with the words. Putting two and two together, they decided to see what they could work out. Several sessions later they had four good strong song ideas, and the decision was made to look for other members to form a band.

However, time passed and prospective candidates came and went, none of whom seemed to share Daniel and Darren’s enthusiasm for the project. That was until the summer of 2004 when, through a friend-of-a-friend, they met Russell Pilfold, a budding drummer who wanted to audition. He exceeded expectations and was invited to join the band. The following months proceeded with a bassist who, although perfectly capable, always seemed to lack the ambition and dedication of the rest of the band.

After several missed rehearsals it was decided that he would need to be replaced if the band were going to start taking things further. Russell suggested his friend of many years, Barry Bloye, a talented musician and a former band-mate of his. Barry auditioned, and it was soon realised that he was everything the band required from a bass player. The line-up was now complete and this new four-piece all shared the same drive and ambition, creating a tight bond along the way. Left Hand Red were born.

Since forming, the band has gone on to play at popular venues throughout the Brighton area. Fusing power-pop rock with strong melodic vocal lines, they are beginning to attract attention and, with hard work, they aim to conquer the world one infectious song at a time.
